Earth Hour at the Tower

Mark your calendars for March 28, 2009 when all heads will be turned towards South Melbourne's Park Towers community housing complex.  In the meantime, interested residents from the area will be meeting weekly to explore concepts of sustainability, and work towards a multi-media art installation that will celebrate Earth Hour with a local flare

One Step Off the Street

Produced by and for rooming house residents, One Step Off the Street is a lifestyle manual that provides essential information, practical tips, and outlines the rights and obligations of those making the transition into low-income shared accommodation.  Originally published in 2005, a subsequent grant is facilitating a necessary update of the content.  An interactive internet site will increase the publication's audience range and level of accessibility.

Pets in the City

Pets are an integral member of many low-income households.  Yet for many, the cost and process involved in the Registration of their fury loved-ones is prohibitive.  Indeed, at Park Towers community housing complex, it is estimated that there are some 250 unregistered pets.  Financial insecurity, low literacy, social isolation, physical disabilities and mental health issues contribute to this disproportionate figure.  In the interests of animal and community welfare, municipal authorities have partnered with PPCG as well as PetLinks and the RSPCA to support these pet owners, to ensure they are meeting their legal obligations; are able to access affordable veterinary services; and have ample opportunities to get out for walks while socialising with other animal lovers.
