Housing
If you have been living rough your options of finding “suitable and
stable” accommodation may be in a community rooming house. A
community rooming house is one that is managed by a community
housing organisation but owned by the Victorian Government through
the Office of Housing.
Although
many of the rooming houses still follow the traditional rooming
house environment with shared facilities such as toilets, bathrooms
and kitchens. However, the Office of Housing is slowly providing
funding to convert rooming house accommodation to self contained
bed sitter or flat accommodation.
Community
housing organisations have waiting lists. You cannot expect to move
straight into a self contained unit but you will have to do your
time in a shared facility property. However, if you have long term
wish to live in the area it may be a quicker option than waiting
for Office of Housing accommodation.
