We are back in Port Melbourne!

After three years, we are finally back in our office in the Port Melbourne Town Hall. We will be offering Information, Referral and Support on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and Financial Counselling on Tuesdays. You will find us down the corridor of the town hall, across from the library side entrance.

So, if you live in Albert Park, Middle Park, South Melbourne, Port Melbourne or Garden City we are your local PPCG office! We are an appointment-only service (we don’t have reception to respond to walk-ins), so please make sure you call us before visiting. We look forward to seeing you.

Port Phillip Community Group (PPCG) began life as the St Kilda Community Group in the early 1970s with the aim to ‘improve communication between, and co-ordination of, existing welfare services, conducting research and service planning and establishing a multi-service community centre where residents could go for assistance’.

PPCG recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples every day of the year. The Uluru Statement from The Heart invites all Australians to walk with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people towards a better future.

The Port Phillip Community Group (PPCG) supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

We believe that it offers a historic opportunity to support justice for First Peoples.

As a community organisation we recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Peoples as the First Peoples of Australia. We respect their enduring connection to the land and country and believe reconciliation is important to create fair and more inclusive relationships.

We are committed to enact our values of respect, equity, inclusiveness and empowerment in our work and in doing so contribute to social justice for First Nations people and all in the Port Phillip Community. Together we can build a more equitable society for all Australians.

We support a constitutionally enshrined First Nations Voice to Federal Parliament to ensure First Nations’ views and aspirations are heard in all decision making. This is one important step in the broader journey for First Nations Peoples’ justice and reconciliation.

We respect that every person will make their own decision independently for the referendum.

Port Phillip Community Group can now assist Victorian households to apply for the $250 Power Saving Bonus. Our support workers are trained in energy hardship and affordability and can assist you to:

ensure you are not paying too much for utilities,
avoid bill shock,
assist if you are in financial hardship,
submit the application for your $250 PSB.

If you already submitted your PSB for this round (since July 1st, 2022), please contact us in March and we can assist you with your application for the new round.

PPCG is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Information Referral & Support (IRS) Coordinator based at our St Kilda site.

The IRS Coordinator is responsible for providing coordination and leadership to a team of Information Referral and Support staff, administration staff and volunteers, connecting with the local community, and building networks and pathways for PPCG clients/service users.

The role is comprised of 0.4 FTE IRS Coordination and 0.4/0.5 FTE IRS Service Delivery.

This position will suit someone with demonstrated leadership skills, ability to work with local service systems, and with a commitment to working in partnership with individuals, families and communities to empower them to achieve their goals.

The IRS Team are responsible for the provision of:

Emergency relief and material aid, crisis and general support to eligible clients through equitable and confidential assessment of their needs.
Information, support, referral, and advocacy for clients and/or to empower clients to address their issues by providing them with the necessary resources to do so.

The Port Phillip Community Group (PPCG) is a community organisation that promotes social inclusion and access to services and opportunities for individuals, families and the community primarily in Port Phillip. Where to get help over the festive break

We know that this time of year can be tough for a lot of people in our community, especially with many services closing or reducing their hours over the festive break.

So, we have put together a handy guide of services that will be open for meals, food parcels and vouchers during this time in case you need support.

If you don’t have plans for Christmas day there is lots happening in our local community and around Melbourne. Share a meal with new friends, explore Christmas Square, or watch the beautiful projections on Flinders St station!

PPCG and ARCH will close at 4:30pm on Thursday 22nd December and re-open on Tuesday 3rd January. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday period and look forward to seeing you all in 2023.

Our 2022 Annual Report

A warm welcome to our 2021-2022 Annual Report. PPCG has continued to place clients and residents at the centre of our work, responding with compassion and care to the practical, psychosocial and support needs of individuals, families and community groups.

We have continued to provide our full range of services: information, referral, support, financial counselling, advocacy; pantry goods, fresh food
and meals; and essential items. We have done this through contactless deliveries, in-person, online and virtually. It has been a welcome change to again provide more of our services in-person. This includes: education and skills development courses; social and recreational activities; and social meals. Returning to regular events, familiar places and faces has helped many people to reconnect and look to the future.

We have achieved a lot in the first year of our Strategic Plan for 2021-2025 and we are proud to be able to share it all with you in this Annual Report.

It’s nearly Tax Help time!

The PPCG Tax Help program will begin in August and run until the end of October, 2022 and we are now open for registration!

Tax Help is a program for people on a low income to get free assistance to complete their tax returns. This year we will be offering face-to-face appointments from our office in St Kilda, as well as remote phone appointments for those who might find it difficult to get to us.
