TOTAL VALUE OF Food DISTRIIBUTED
Share the Food is a food relief initiative launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide food relief across the City of Port Phillip and has since transformed into a hub for providing food donations including fresh produce, pantry staples, frozen goods and other essential items to various local charities. Share The Food leverages storage space and resources including volunteers to coordinate and sort food donations in order to support other charities in the Port Phillip area.
We receive donations from South Melbourne Market, Oz Harvest, Second Bite, Alex Makes Meals, Food Filled, and Kiwanis.
We provide donations to multiple individual agencies in the Port Phillip area on a weekly basis. These include:
- Southport Community Centre
- Uniting Southport Meals Program
- C Care
- Men’s Shed Port Melbourne
- Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project
- Salvation Army The Well at St Kilda
- Christchurch Community Centre
- Emerald Hill Mission
- Ngwala Willumbong
- Windana
- Souper Kitchen
- Five Loaves Initiative
- Launch Housing
- Better Health Network
In addition to these, we also provide surplus perishable produce and bread to local social and community housing projects as well as other charities that are located outside the local government area.
The Share The Food warehouse acts as a connection point for charities in the area to access food supplies and fresh produce. The recipient agencies access various models to address food insecurity including distributing food packs with a van, hosting community meals, and offering produce and other pantry staples to community members attending their services and programs.
To all of our amazing donors, supporters, and especially our volunteers, THANK YOU so much for your incredible hard work and generosity. We could not do this without you.
If you are a resident of the City of Port Phillip and you are experiencing food crisis, please phone us to speak to a support worker about how we can assist.
